I began by looking into the history of the surname of Frenaye, we found the recorded history starts circa 1450. There was some type of a lawsuit involving 20,000 crowns and the land of La Frenaye. Apparently, La Frenaye was a town/township in the 1400's. It was a small town with a beautiful castle, parks and land. It appears in 1496, JACQUES OF RUFPIERRE obtained the title to the grounds on which the castle, priests and is strongholds were situated which was in central France.
In 1589, Lancelot of Frenaye was grafted into the Order of Malta. (Yes, really Lancelot!) The name of the Order of Malta is often used today to refer to several different organizations who claim their origin in order of St. John of Jerusalem , a historical order of the Hospitallers.
April 16. 1594 brought change to the currency. The person responsible for the weighing of the coin currency was Jeban Frenaye. (or preferred by most French Jean or in English John) according to the Directory of the French company of numismatics.
In 1598, Lancelot de la Frenaye was named nobility.
October 1600 there is an entry in a archive called Memoirs by the Company of sciences, agriculture and of arts of Lille. However, it does not mention anything significant about "frenaye". Just a sub-entry of the name and the date.
In 1606, Jean Vauquelin, Sir of Frenaye, the access lawyer of the king to the "bailliage da Caen" (House of deputy's), then lieutenant-general and president with the présidial (judicial tribunal of the French Ancient Régime) of this city, and was born with the key to castle Frenaye. He was also a poet.
1613 - 1615, Jean of Frenaye Vauquelin, published some satyrs.
1629- In the hamlet (small village) of Frenaye there was a vault of Saint-Christophe, destroyed with the Revolution.
1642 - Lord Frenaye Born France ; Died 1698 in Quebec Canada
1643 - Entry of Martin Frenaye mentioned in Summary inventory of the Departmental records former to 1790 of the Puy-de-dôme, France.
1649 - Nicolas Vauquelin,, wire of the precedent, born with the castle of Frenaye, died.
1691 - The first of whom we have record in 50 years is Jean Leclair Frenaye whose wife was Perrine Marceau. They resided in the parish of Saint Nicholas, in the city of Nantes, France. Jean (2), son of Jean (l) and Perrine (Marceau) Leclair was the founder of the family in Canada in 1691. He settled near Quebec, Canada, and then moved to Saint Ours, where the family has since been continually represented.
1693 - Pierre-Antoine Frenaye made his studies with the college of the Jesuits in Quebec, being boarder with the seminary of this city. In 1693, at 16 years, he chose the religious life and entered to the Noviciate of Récollets, with the convent of Montreal, founded the previous year.
1703 - To release itself from debt, the Community, by the capitulary act of March 21, 1703, authorizes a loan of 1000 pounds. The surplus is almost in balanced entirety by another loan of the sum of 3000 pounds from a private gentleman- all to Anne and Marie Frenaye for back taxes owed.
1732 - Claude-Etienne of Frenaye, born in 1732 and married to Marie-Marguerite Trudon
1734- The monastery completed the payment of the tax owed by Anne and Marie Frenaye on June 29.
1735 - An important character, named André Frenaye, which simultaneously held, in the bailliage, the offices of second civil and criminal general lieutenant, of particular lieutenant criminal assessor, second enqnestor inspector, first lawyer of the king and first prosecutor of the king of police force.
1749 - We find André Frenaye with the titles of mayor, of subdelegate and lawyer of the king
1769 - a Chinese Hunting inventory is entrusted to M E Jean-Pierre of Frenaye, notary in Châtelet of Paris
1802 - Chapron, Frenaye & Co., ( silk and ribbon business) at the north- west corner of Seventh and Market streets. Philadelphia. PA. A popular company of its day.
1812 - January 13, Claudia Frenaye. Of this marriage is resulting a son, Jean Ferdinand-Arthur, who continued the lineage.
1835 - The charter gave all the " powers, privileges, and immunities," and was subject to the restrictions contained in an act entitled " An Act for the establishment of Laurel Hill College in Penn Township, County of Philadelphia, approved the 13th of April, 1835." Nine Trustees were authorized. Five were to be laymen. The " first lay trustees " were John Keating, John Diamond, Joseph Dugan. Michael Magrath, and Mark Anthony Frenaye.
1848 - In May of 1848 a bank was opened to receive, and pay interest on, the deposits of working Catholics who did not want to use the private savings institutions. Popularly known as the “Bishop's Bank”, it was managed by Mark Antony Frenaye, a Philadelphia Catholic businessman who served for many years as the financier and treasurer of the Diocese of Philadelphia.

1867 - Mr. Mark Antony Frenaye, on the evening of 13 December, gave a liberal subscription of $5000 to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Philadelphia.
1873- Jan 4, 1873 - Mark Anthony Frenaye, for nearly forty years secretary and confidential agent of the Ordinaries of Philadelphia, having served in that position under Bishops Conwell, Kenrick, Neumann, C. SS. R., and Wood, enjoyed until his death a familiar correspondence with very many of the hierarchy and other clergy of the United States. He died in Philadelphia, 4 January, 1873, and was buried from the Holy Family (now Gesu) church in Cathedral Cemetery.

1902 - In the "Records of the American Catholic Historical Society" for December, 1902, there appeared from an anonymous contributor a brief autobiography of Mr. M.A. Frenaye, together with a large number of letters showing how close were this estimable man's relations to a large number of the American prelates and clergy, as well as prominent lay Catholics of his day. His autobiography, like the man himself, it will be perceived, was truly modest.

1944 - William E. Frenaye III, Army Air Forces, son of Mr. and Mrs.William Frenaye Jr, of New Albany, Ind., Lieutenant Frenaye, an alumnus of Carteret Academy, attended Cornell University. He received his wings in April. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a second lieutenant, piloting for the Troop Carrier Command out of Hawaii and Okinawa. An English major at Kenyon, he was a founder of the Archon fraternity.
After working as a high-school teacher at Newark Academy in New Jersey, Bill joined the administrative staff at Kenyon in 1955 as assistant to the secretary of the College, Robert B. Brown '11. The name Frenaye had a very noble beginning and one would think it would bean honor to carry the name and continue to ensure that it was respected. One would think...
So, it blows a hole in the theory that a name could "make" someone. Clearly, it is not true.
We will be getting a clearer picture of each persona soon!
